Clos LaChance
Ruby-Throated 2006
Cabernet Sauvignon $14.99
Clos LaChance from the Central Coast celebrate the hummingbirds ability to chase away other grape eating birds. The winemaker blends small amounts of other Bordeaux-style varietals to bring out aromas of dark berries and anise spice and flavors of currents and plums. I like the ripe tannins and long finish of this red. Serve with steak, rack of lamb and chocolate.
I have four new California Cabernet Sauvignons that are all delicious wines and great values.
BLACKBURN 2007 from Paso Robles $14.99/bottle or $153.00/case($12.75/bottle) Save 15%
This is a rich and intensely flavored Cabernet. The nose has flavors of ripe cherry and cinnamon, the palate toffee and currant with a long lush finish and balanced tannins. Fruit-Spice-Flavor. Crystal's Choice
T75 2006 from Amber Knolls Vineyard $21.99/bottle or $227.40/case ($18.95/bottle)
From the winery notes: This wine showcases wonderful notes of blueberry and fresh ripe cherries interwoven with subtle graphite and toasty oak. It is incredibly fragrant and beautifully concentrated, all the while maintaining great acidity and a wonderful long finish. This wine is certainly approachable now but should age beautifully. From CPS notes: Great nose of Cabernet, balance of fruit mingling with the structure of tannins.
THE SUM 2007 from California $21.99/bottle or $227.40/case ($18.95/bottle)
From Robert Parker, December 2009: The real star, and a great bargain, is the 2007 The Sum – The Seventy-Five Wine Company. This is an absolute steal when it comes to high-class wine. A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah, and 10% Petite Sirah, there are 5,200 cases of this wine, which is truly outstanding and an amazing value. Sweet blue and black fruits, camphor, and spice box all jump from the glass of this dense, medium to full-bodied, juicy, supple wine, which is a hedonist’s dream come true. This is a beauty to drink over the next 4-5 years. California and Napa Valley need wines like this. Don’t dare pass it by! Score: 90. Richard Recommends
GIRARD 2007 from Napa Valley $32.99/bottle or $354.00/case ($29.50/bottle)
Enticing aromas of toffee, leather and cocoa, on the palate vanilla, cassis and pepper. A medium-bodied wine with integrated oak and balance tannins. Especially food friendly, this wine is stunning. Will cellar for several years but no need to wait. ALL STORE FAVORITE
At Etude Vineyard I fell in love with their Heirloom Pinot Noir and 2005 Napa Cabernet – both expressive and generous reds. When I returned I found that both wines were rated 90 by Robert Parker and are still available and reduced from $90.00 to $75.00 a bottle. If you’re looking for something very special, please contact me. One day we spent in the Dry Creek Valley of Northern Sonoma and went to the last vineyard to the north, Sbragia Family Vineyards. There I found an elegant Burgundian-style dry Chardonnay, the 2008 Home Ranch Chardonnay, and we now have it in stock at a price of $26.99.
